Tube Inspection and Measurement

ROMER's STINGER II™ portable CMM was designed for applications needing a low cost, portable measurement device for inspection or reverse engineering. The STINGER II™ incorporates enhancements that enable the 6-foot STINGER II to measure to ± .0021 in. volumetric length accuracy.

The STINGER II™ is available with a 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 foot measuring envelope. This arm is ideal for inspection, measuring and reverse engineering applications in the metalworking, construction, fabrication, woodworking, plastics, welding and computer graphics industries.

The STINGER II™ can be provided with PowerINSPECT™ or PowerINSPECT Lite™, our first choices for inspection applications. PowerINSPECT™ is a Windows® program for inspection and reverse engineering. New expanded GD&T capability includes true position, perpendicularity, angularity, parallelism and concentricity. The software automatically generates fully customized Excel® reports. Reports and Excel templates can be made as simple or complex as required and can be tailored to suit all customer or quality requirements.

STINGER II arms ship with HighRes reverse engineering software. HighRes seamlessly copies arm data into the current version of one of seven CAD programs: AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop/Inventor Series, Mastercam, CADKEY, SolidWorks and exclusively from ROMER - Autodesk Inventor 8 or Pro/Engineer Wildfire.

The STINGER II provides the following exclusive features and benefits:

  • Intelligent quick-change probes can be changed on-the-fly without tools or re-calibration. The system automatically recognizes and compensates for the type of probe installed. This feature dramatically improves inspection productivity.
  • Carbon fiber arms that are dimensionally stable regardless of temperature and have a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects.
  • Up to 540 degrees rotation of the arm's principal axes with a unique "ball-track" soft-stop design that prevents arm damage common with conventional hard stops.
  • A counterbalance that offsets the weight of the arm, reduces operator fatigue and allows one-handed operation.
  • Mounting can be direct to table or with a magnetic base.
  • A compact and lightweight design that allows the arm to be checked as standard luggage on commercial airlines.
